5 Things I Learned From Solo Travel

Say Goodbye To The Comfort Zone

Each time I head back on another solo trip, it takes me a few days to forget my routine and get into my flow on the road. This means being comfortable in the uncomfortable, and going with the flow. In my solo travel the best experiences happen once you are ready to receive them.

You Will Be Forced To Be A Problem Solver

Doing your research in advance is always a good idea, but I can almost guarantee that plans will change, and you will need to be a problem solver to pivot your plans. A good problem solver can think quickly, but also dissect multiple options in order to make the right and safest one for you.

You Are Never Truly Alone

This lesson is one of the greatest ones. *(If you are reading this during the current Covid-19 Pandemic, then this lesson is also currently greatly changed in the backpacking community)

While backpacking solo, you most likely will find yourself in a hostel, sharing space with a lot of like-minded travelers from around the world. This is the best place to make friends, and connections. Get to know these other adventure seekers, and you will often find out that they have very similar plans as youm and want to visit the places to visit, and you can become a group for a short while and travel together. This is one of the unique experiences that only solo travel can provide.

You Will Catch the Travel Bug for Life

Once you get out on your first solo trip, and have these experiences in the hostel, finding your way on buses, and meeting interesting people from all over the world you will be hooked! You may go from having a three-week adventure to your next trip being six months…maybe a year.

Getting Lost Is Amazing

This final lesson is a mix of the first two lessons. Getting lost while solo traveling helps your problem solve, and end up in new unplanned destinations. It will force you to step right out of your comfort zone, and feel comfortable on the unknown.  Getting lost, is an opportunity to open a door to something you did not expect, and of course you will have one great story to tell.
